Powers of Attorney

What is it? Under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, you can now draw up a legal document called a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) – a document that enables you to appoint a person or persons to look after your affairs in the event of mental and/or physical incapacity, perhaps due to infirmity and old age, illness or accident. There are two types of LPA:

• LPA Property and Financial Affairs – An LPA to cover the management of your financial affairs.

• LPA Health and Welfare – An LPA to cover the management of your personal matters, such as medical care.

Who will benefit? Anyone who wishes to have the peace of mind of knowing that they have chosen to appoint a person to deal with their affairs after the onset of mental and/or physical incapacity.
